OXFORD: GEORGE STREET CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH RECORDS

Scope and Content

These records concern the Congregational Church in George Street, Oxford. The church was formed in 1832 and closed in 1933. The Trustees of the church managed the property and after the church closed a new Trust was created to manage the surplus funds. They made grants for repairs to local Congregational churches, manses and the new church in Collinwood Road, Headington. There are also records of the Central Elememtary School that the Congregational church helped found in 1871 and managed until it was transferred to the City School Board in 1898.

These records were deposited as Acc 2006 in March 1982 and Acc 3454 in April 1992. They were originally catalogued as OxCC I.

A conspectus of new and old references is included at the end of this catalogue. Catalogued by Alison Smith, November 2009.
