AMENITIES AND COUNTRYSIDE COMMITTEE

Scope and Content

Programme Committee set up to exercise the Council's powers and duties under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 and the Countryside Act 1968 with responsibility for recreational footpaths, plant and tree protection, nature conservation, commons, caravan sites, provision of sites for gypsies, smallholdings, land drainage, animal health, tourism, recreational facilities and refuse and waste disposal.

In May 1977 the Committee was disbanded: its recreational functions were transferred to the Recreational Committee (see CC2/15); reponsibility for refuse and waste disposal, smallholdings, land drainage and highway matters was transferred to the Environmental Committee (see CC2/7); responsibility for animal health was transferred to the Public Protection Committee (see CC2/11) and for gypsy sites to the Land, Buildings and Supplies Subcommittee (see CC2/2/A3)
