Appointed under the Local Taxation (Customs and Excise) Act, 1890 (53 & 54 Vict. c. 60) to administer an Exchequer grant for promoting technical education within the meaning of the Technical Instruction Act, 1889 (52 & 53 Vict. c. 76). District (sub-)committees were set up to administer grant applications. The Committee was replaced by the Education Committee in 1903 (see CC1/12).
