The collection contains:

Research material collected by Taner Oc, including published pamphlets, reports, articles, strategy papers and newscuttings concerning race riots, the education, employment and housing of ethnic minorities, racism in general, planning issues in Newham and Bradford, urban regeneration in London and Cardiff docklands, and planning in The Netherlands. 1971-1995 (MS 803/1);

Project reports and seminar papers based on London Docklands urban regeneration, written collaboratively by MA students of the Institute of Planning Studies. 1985-1991 (MS 803/2);

Minutes of staff meetings, memoranda, module choice lists, timetables and other administrative material from the Institute of Planning Studies/Department of Urban Planning. 1983-2000 (MS 803/3).

Taner Oc was educated at the Middle East Technical University, Turkey, took a MA at Chicago, and received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. He was appointed as a lecturer in Planning Theory at the Institute of Planning Studies, University of Nottingham, in 1976.

In 1995 Dr Oc was appointed as Head of a new Department of Urban Planning. The department was later reunited with the School of Architecture (now the School of the Built Environment). In 2008 Taner Oc was Professor of Urban Design and Planning, and Director of the Institute of Urban Planning at the University of Nottingham.

His research interests lie in planning and urban regeneration; housing, education and employment of ethnic minorities; and racism, race relations and urban race riots. Taner Oc's publications include 'Current issues in planning', ed., with Sylvia Trench (Aldershot : Gower, 1990; 2nd ed 1995), and 'Urban regeneration and ethnic minority groups : training and business support in City Challenge areas', with Steven Tiesdell and David Moynihan (Bristol : Policy Press, 1997).

The arrangement of material made by Professor Oc has been retained.

The bulk of the collection is accessible to all readers. However, access to items in series MS 803/3 is restricted under the Data Protection Act 1998 and other relevant legislation. Please see our Access Policy or contact us for further advice.
