Scope and Content

The collection contains one volume, entitled 'Exercises in Surveying, Mainly concerning Nottingham'. The volume comprises:

Administrative / Biographical History

The notebook contains surveying exercises by W.C. Thompson, completed in 1917 and 1918. The inside front cover is inscribed with the name and address 'W.C. Thompson, 12 Clarence Road, Derby, or Engineer's Office, Midland Railway, Derby'. There is nothing to indicate whether Thompson worked at the Midland Railway at the same time as undertaking the surveying exercises, or afterwards. Nothing is more is known about Mr Thompson at present.

The collection was acquired by the library of the University of Nottingham in around 1938, and transferred to the Department of Manuscripts in about 1973.
