Bound volume of manuscript notes taken between 1776 and 1777 by Robert Steavenson, medical academic and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh on 'A complete course of lectures on midwifery and on the diseases of pregnant and puerperal women and of children' from lectures delivered by Thomas Young in Edinburgh in 1776, covering all matters of midwifery including the use of obstetric instruments.

Robert Steavenson was educated at the University of Edinburgh. He became a member of the medical society of Edinburgh in 1776 and was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh in 1777.
