Administrative / Biographical History
Frank Dobson as Secretary of State for Health, invited the Royal Colleges of Midwives, of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and of Paediatrics and Child Health to set up a working party to set criteria for consideration when restructuring or closing maternity units. Additional representation was sought from the Department of Health, the Royal College of General Practitioners, and from the Obstetric Anaesthetists Association. The resulting report, although printed in July 2000, was never published and was withdrawn at the request of Yvette Cooper, Junior Health Minister.
