Ms midwife’s register of cases, compiled by L. Basand, whilst working as a midwife for the London County Council (30 January 1949-25 June 1963), recording the births that she attended in Southwark, including the date of expected confinement, the name, ages, address and pregnancy history of each patient, the date and time of her arrival, the presentation of the child on birth, the date and hour of the birth, the sex of the infant, whether the infant was born living or dead, whether the infant was premature, the name of the doctor if called, whether there were any complications during or after labour, the date of her last visit, the condition of the mother and child on her last visit, as well as any further remarks, such as whether forceps were used and what drugs were administered during the delivery.
