Scope and Content

This collection comprises an ms pupil case book, containing notes, charts and graphs, compiled by Audrey Williams (18 March 1947-17 January 1948), providing detailed descriptions of the births she attended as a pupil midwife at the City Maternity Hospital in Birmingham, together with five ms register of cases, also completed by her whilst training and then throughout her subsequent career as a midwife (1 March 1947-14 March 1968), recording the name, personal details and pregnancy history of each patient, their expected date of delivery, the name of the doctor if called, antenatal care given, the date and hour of birth, the weight and sex of the infant, the date of her last visit, the condition of the mother and child on her last visit, the method of feeding, the drugs administered as well as addition comments.

Administrative / Biographical History

Audrey Williams (fl. 1920-2000) was a midwife, who trained at the City Maternity Hospital of Birmingham in 1947 and went on to practise in Devon.
