Scope and Content

This collection comprises correspondence, research notes and reports of the Senior Professional Officer and the Director of the Professional Affairs Department at the Royal College of Midwives (1985-1996), relating to the policy of the organisation on the challenges that face midwives and mothers, including employment relations, health legislation, the management of maternity services and methods of infant nutrition.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Professional Affairs Department of the Royal College of Midwives is responsible for producing an extensive range of publications and policy papers that provide guidance and comment on the challenges that face midwives and mothers. Thus engaging members and in turn building practical resources which are supportive in the practice field of midwives.

Arrangement

The original order of material is retained, although where this is not possible the arrangement of files has been based on the functions and activities of the organisation as well as chronology, subject and the needs of users.

Access Information

Permission is required for external access to records less than twenty years old. Also restrictions apply if material includes personal information of living individuals. All other records are open to research by appointment, Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm. There is no record of the source or date of acquisition before this material was deposited under the terms of a collection care agreement at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in May 2011.
