Scope and Content

This digital collection contains a selection of primary sources relating to British healthcare before the foundation of the National Health Service (NHS) in 1948. It focuses particularly on the debate over how the health of the nation should be managed and the campaign for a state-run health service. The documents are from archive collections held at the Modern Records Centre, University of Warwick, including the archives of the Trades Union Congress. Many, but not all, represent the views of the political left.
