Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Institute of Baths Management was founded in 1921 as the Association of Bath Superintendents. It was incorporated in 1931 and became the National Association of Bath Superintendents (Incorporated). Around 1962 it became the Institute of Baths Management (Incorporated). The institute's objectives were to provide a central organisation for those employed in public or private baths, to promote their interests and to improve co-operation between members. A large proportion of its work was concerned with education and training.

Custodial History
These records were transferred from Clapton Baths in the London Borough of Hackney to the Hackney Archives Department. At least one of the honorary general secretaries of the Institute had been the superintendent of Hackney Baths. The bulk of the records were destroyed by a later superintendent before they could be transferred. The surviving records were transferred to the Modern Records Centre in 1988.
