Administrative / Biographical History

The Discovery Expeditions, 1925 to 1951, were organised to provide information required for whaling and sealing industries the investigations were a series of oceanographic voyages undertaken by Scott's first expedition ship Discovery and later by Discovery II and William Scoresby. During the first two years research 1925 to 1927 a laboratory was set up on South Georgia. The first cruise of the William Scoresby involved whale marking off South Georgia and dredging off the Falkland Islands.
