Administrative / Biographical History
The Discovery Expeditions, 1925 to 1951, Organised to provide information required for whaling and sealing industries the investigations were a series of oceanographic voyages undertaken by Scott's first expedition ship Discovery and later by the Royal Research Ships Discovery II and William Scoresby. During the first two years research (1925 to 1927) a laboratory was set up on South Georgia.
The first cruise of the William Scoresby involved whale marking off South Georgia and dredging off the Falkland Islands.
