Administrative / Biographical History
The Argentine Relief Expedition, 1903 (Captained by Irzar) was sent to rescue the Swedish South Polar Expedition, 1901-1903 (leader Nils Otto Nordenskjld) which had been stranded when their expedition ship Antarctic was crushed in pack ice. The Scottish National Antarctic Expedition, 1902-1903 led by Bruce had been making preparations to mount a relief voyage when news of the Uruguay's successful voyage.
