Administrative / Biographical History
The correspondence relates to emperor penguins. These are the largest of the penguins. Apsley Cherry-Garrard took part in a winter journey to the emperor penguin rookery at Cape Crozier during the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 (leader Robert Falcon Scott). Along with Edward Wilson and Henry Bowers he collected specimens, which were brought back to England and deposited with the British Museum (Natural History department).
