Scope and Content

This file contains correspondence regarding the 40th anniversary of the Society. It was proposed that a public tea be held, followed by two meetings that would be held simultaneously. The file contains letters written to potential speakers including Ramsay MacDonald who became the first Labour Prime Minister, Philip Snowden the first Labour Chancellor of the Exchequer and Labour MP James Parker. The file also contains two sets of correspondence from co-operative societies, divided into those who accepted and those who declined the invitation to the celebrations.
