Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Cooke writes of his intentions to attend an address to be delivered by Owen at John Street [London] and asks Owen's opinion on pamphlets ( the Prospectus of the Co-operative Emigration Society and Testimonials of the Co-operative Emigration Society), the Scheme of Emigration, which he has enclosed with this letter.

Included are the two pamphlets referred to by Cooke in his letter. The Prospectus outlines the regulation of the Society founded on the 1st March 1845 in Sheffield, established to promote and encourage successful emigration to America by its members, "who wish to better their present position". The Testimonials contains a number of printed copies of letters attesting to the validity of the Prospectus.
