Manuscript itemised bill for Robert Owen and a servant at the Franklin House Hotel, Washington.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Franklin House Hotel was located at the northeast corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 21st Street. In 1823 the original owner William O'Neal sold the property to John Gadsby. The hotel was used by many dignitaries of the time and just 1 month prior to Owen arriving had been played host to the the future President of the United States, Andrew Jackson.
