This manuscript letter consists of two sections: an opening section written to Owen, and a section which Owen is asked to read and send to the Executive [of the Grand National Consolidated Trades Union of Great Britain and Ireland].
In the letter to Owen, Wood explains how the methods employed by him on his "mission" to meet with the leaders of the "Great Unions" and explaining thoroughly the principles [of co-operation] to them, has not met with favour with the Grand Lodge, who would preferred Wood to have "skipped through the country" and met many more people. This disagreement has led to Wood being recalled by the Grand Lodge.
In his letter addressed to the Executive, Wood gives a detailed account of his recent missionary activities. He recalls visiting a number of towns and cities around the Birmingham region, including Coventry, Kenilworth, Leamington and Warwick and in each place meeting with Union members, giving addresses and opening [Union] Lodges. In Leamington good progress was made, with Wood noting that 6 or 7 hundred members of the Builders Union will "soon be with us".
