Letter from Robert Owen to James Rigby

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Robert Owen compliments James Rigby on his successes and relays the success of Thomas Atkins' school, claiming that it is keeping with practical measures for a community such as the estate will require.

He implores Rigby to go with Baume to Wandsworth and examine the great infant school there, as they are the most advanced that he knows of. He continues to explain that his ideas of practical education are quite different from the notions presently entertained.

He then discusses plans for a new estate. He explains that the plan is simple, and built for the working classes with a school in the center and perhaps also then culinary and eating arrangements for the workers.
