Administrative / Biographical History
Flockton Industrial Co-operative Society was formed in 1865. In 1969 the Society became part of Barnsley British Co-operative Society. This then became part of Co-operative Retail Services in 1971. At the point of transfer to Barnsley British Co-operative Society in 1969, Flockton Society had a number of grocery branches; a butchery department; a bread and confectionary department; a drapery and fashions department; a menswear, footwear, furnishing, hardware, radio, TV and electrical department; a travel bureau; and a sports outfitters.
