Administrative / Biographical History
Garston and District Co-operative Society was formed in 1884. The central premises were at James Street and by 1887 they had 157 members. In 1963 the society became part of Birkenhead & District Co-operative Society. At this point Garston and District Co-operative Society had branches at Garston Old Road, Heald STreet, St Mary's Road, Seddon Road, Window Lane, Holmfield Road, Belle Vue Road, Hillfoot Road, The Crescent, Eastern Avenue, Western Avenue, Allerton Road, Edwards Lane, Woodger Street, Raglan Street, and Speke Hall Road. In 1975 Birkenhead & District Co-operative Society became part of Co-operative Retail Services.
