Dauzats was a French orientalist painter, draughtsman and engraver. He followed the Baron Taylor in a diplomatic mission to Egypt (the Luxor Obelisk was notably given to France during this trip), where he acquired his orientalist touch that was lauded by Romantic writers, especially Dumas.
