Scope and Content

The Department of Overseas Administrative Studies was originally concerned with the training in administration of a various occupational groups from foreign countries. The department later evolved into the Institute for Development Policy and Management. During this period, the Department was headed by Professor Arthur Livingstone, who played a major role in improving its status within the University. Subjects covered in the file include: courses for foreign administrators; tenurial position of academic staff in the Department; relations with the Overseas Development Agency; secondment of staff to training and consultancy work abroad; and development of a residential centre for overseas students. There is also a memorandum by Livingstone (July 1966) which outlines current and future activities of the Department.
