Scope and Content

Papers relating to the administration of the department of history. Most of the file is routine correspondence between the vice-chancellor and the departmental professors ( E.F.Jacob, L.B.Namier, and C.R. Cheyney). There are also papers concerning the appointment of a special lecturer in local history (G.H. Tupling) in 1934, which include interesting information about the teaching of local history at the University; the appointment of an assistant lecturer in economic history (T.S. Willan) in 1938, and papers concerning the University's involvement with the county records sub-committee of Lancashire county council, on which Professor Jacob sat.
