Papers relating to the appointment of Patrick Blackett as Langworthy professor of physics at the University. Blackett, one of the University's most distinguished academics, won the Nobel Prize for physics in 1948. The physics chair had been divided in 1937, with a chair in physics and one for theoretical physics.
