File: Regional Computer Centre

Scope and Content

The Regional Computer Centre was established in Manchester in 1969, and provided computer services for a consortia of North West universities. During the 1980s, there was considerable discussion of the Centre's future, as individual universities began to establish their own computing facilities. The file includes a review of the Centre's senior staffing arrangements and a visit by the Computer Board visit in 1987 [a public body which co-ordinated computing activities in UK universities].
