Original letters from various correspondents to Samuel Johnson 1769-1777 (/2-4: from Samuel Jackson Pratt, William Scott and Phoebe Herne), to HLP 1769-1777 (/5-28) and to Henry Thrale 1763-1782 (/30-32); names of correspondents are given in the Index (part of Eng MS 893 ). The first item in the volume is an unsigned letter from Johnson to HLP, which she published in her edition of his correspondence (volume ii, number 44, in the 1788 edition), and number 29 is the draft of a letter from HLP addressed to My Lord Duke.
