Scope and Content

From Levi Fox, (1914-2006), archivist.

79/1 20 Jun 1938, with a page of notes attached. Informs Tait of his appointment as the archivist to the Corporation of Coventry and his plan to investigate the history of the freedom of the city. Particularly important due to a legal battle over whether women should be entitled to enter the freedom via apprenticeship. Asks Tait's opinion if a proven historical connection to London would help to win the case and about the effect of the woman's marital status. Notes at the bottom of each page.

79/2 14 Feb 1939, asks Tait if he would be able to give evidence in court on his dating of Earl Ranulf's charter to the burgesses of Coventry to 1200-1208. Also states that his thesis on the honor of Leicester, as examined by Tait, was to be published in the English Historical Review.

Dated at St. Mary's Hall, Coventry.
