Bundle: Florence Nightingale jewellery

Scope and Content

Bundle of correspondence concerning the gift from Sir Harry and Lady Platt to the Manchester Royal Infirmary in 1968 of a pearl brooch and earrings, previously belonging to Florence Nightingale. The jewellery had been given to Platt in 1933 by a patient of Platt's, who was a retired nurse. Platt presented the jewellery at the Golden Jubilee Dinner of the Manchester Branch of the Royal College of Nursing and National Council of Nurses in February 1968. The correspondence includes correspondence with Lucy Duff-Grant, with the matron of MRI, and with the Board of Governors of United Manchester Hospitals.
