Photographic material

Scope and Content

This series contains six photograph albums and over 100 loose photographs of a wide range of subjects. The photographs range in date from 1910 to 1986, but most photographs were taken from the 1950s to the 1970s. Platt's role as an internationally significant figure in orthopaedic surgery is well reflected in the photographs; there are many photographs of meetings of orthopaedic and surgical associations, especially the British Orthopaedic Association, and some of Platt's foreign travel more generally. There are also a number of photographs of significant orthopaedic surgeons, and Platt's friends and colleagues in America. Platt's clinical work is not particularly well represented, although there are a number of photographs taken at Ethel Hedley and Biddulph Grange Orthopaedic Hospitals, and a few photographs of Platt while operating.

There is photographic material throughout the papers of Sir Harry Platt which has been retained in its original context. Of particular note are clinical lantern slides (at PLA/1/5/4, PLA/1/6/8-9, and PLA/1/11), lantern slides and photographs used in addresses and publications (at PLA/12/3 and PLA/4/2/6), photographic material from his travels (at PLA/10/3) and photographs relating to Platt's birthday (PLA/13/9/5).

Arrangement

This series has been organised into two subseries, one for photograph albums, one for loose photographs and one for cine-film.
