Administrative / Biographical History
The Empire Cotton Growing Corporation was founded in 1921 to promote cotton growing in British dominions to lessen dependence on the supply from the southern states of the U.S.A. The Corporation was funded by a rate levied on raw cotton imports with the agreement of the majority of cotton spinners in Manchester and Liverpool.
