Henry Ollier was the son of Thomas Ollier. He succeeded his father as medical officer of the New Bailey Prison, Manchester in 1823, and practised as a surgeon in central Manchester. He is also recorded as a medical officer at St Mary's Hospital. He also lectured on medical jurisprudence at Manchester Royal School of Medicine.
