Mitchell practised medicine in Manchester in the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century. He had an interest in theology, being a believer in the approaching millenium, and published his ideas in The first part of a new exposition of the Revelation of the Apostle John, (London 1800), and was also involved in campaigns to defend freedom of the press in the 1790s.
