Grant was born on 8 July 1954 and was educated at St Andrews and Manchester. He was a successful student and was mess president at MRI. After qualifying, Grant was house officer at MRI and clinical pathologist. In 1980 Grant was appointed lecturer in pathology at the University of Manchester. He died on 29 November 1981.
