Davison gained her medical qualifications from the University of Newcastle in 1967. She held hospital appointments in Newcastle, Preston and Manchester before settling in general practice. She was a principal general practitioner at Barlow Medical Centre in Didsbury and later practised in Wythenshawe. She was a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
