After qualification Baigel held house positions at London Jewish Hospital, Lister Hospital, Hitchin (Hertfordshire). He then specialized in anaesthetics with positions at Hitchin Hospitals, Birmingham Accident Hospital, Hillingdon Hospital, Crumpsall and North Manchester Hospital and MRI. He later became area specialist in community medicine for Social Services in Salford. Baigel was a fellow of Manchester Medical Society , being particularly active in the Section of Community Medicine, being President 1987-1988 and Honorary Secretary 1978-1985.
