Thompson was senior anaesthetist at MRI when he died in a car accident on 25 June 1910, aged 31. He had studied medicine at Manchester and held resident anaesthetic appointments at MRI. He was also honorary anaesthetist to Victoria Dental Hospital and Manchester Skin Hospital and assistant anaesthetist to Manchester Ear Hospital.
