Slinger was born in Manchester and studied medicine at Owens College. He was resident medical officer to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and house surgeon at MRI, working with Sir Victor Horsley. In 1904, Slinger left Manchester to settle in general practice in Worcester, and in 1910 was appointed to the honorary staff of Worcester General Infirmary. Slinger died on 10 September 1929, at the young age of 49.
