Scope and Content

From D. Whitmore to Mary Tooth. They must again regret the obstacle that weather has presented to their meeting and 'seeking spiritual good at Madeley'. Whitmore dares not ride in the current conditions.

She hopes that Tooth will be able to send them a good account of [Mary] Fletcher's health and of how she is coping with this severe weather. Spiritual matters are discussed.

Whitmore was much struck the other day with a letter from a pious husband to his wife on the occasion of the dangerous illness of their child. He writes that in the event of the child dying, she should avoid all complaining for when she reaches heaven herself, she would then know all the reasons for God's actions.

They are returning Mrs Fletcher's book with thanks. Miss Whitmore in particular found it very useful.

They are sending a wild duck as a present for Fletcher - they have been told by the person who shot it, that it should not be dressed until the end of next week.
