Letter

From Mary Putnam in Guisborough to Mary Fletcher in Madeley. 'I trust the liberty I am now induced to take will be pardoned when I say perhaps the peace and happiness of a child (who is far dearer to me than words can express) may depend on it.' A short time ago Putnam received a letter from Mr Bridgman informing her that he had 'conceived an attachment for my daughter. Now Mr Bridgman being an entire stranger to me has referred me to you as to one whom I may with ease and propriety make any inquiry I consider necessary respecting him. I shall therefore Madam be most thankful to receive from you when convenient not only any and every information of himself, family and connections etc, but also your own opinion of Mr Bridgman.
