Wilkinson was medical referee on the Radiological Protection Service Sub-Committee from 1968 until the reorganisation of the service in 1977 and carried out medical examinations on those exposed to radiation during the course of their work. The University's Radiological Protection Service continues to operate today to ensure the health and safety of workers in this field.
