Scope and Content

Correspondence between Wilkinson and the Medical Research Council, namely Dr F.H.K. Green, F.J.C. Herrald, Dr Arthur Landsborough Thomson, and E. Mellanby, concerning payment of Dr Francis X. Aylward, emergency pathological services, renewal of grants for the continued assistance of Aylward and for clerical assistance, trials of desoxycorticosterone for the Therapeutic Trials Committee, the annual report, Civilian Hospital Emergency Blood Transfusion Service, and continuation of grant for the assistance of Mr B.R.S. Mainwaring and details of proposed future work. The annual report is relatively brief and gives an overview of the work done by the department including investigations into trials of desoxycorticosterone-acetate, the chemical nature of the anti-anaemic principle of stomach and liver, the analysis of gastric juice, pernicious anaemia, aplastic anaemia, and haemolytic anaemia, achrestic anaemia, bone marrow by sternal puncture, vitamin B1 in blood, storage of blood for transfusion services, and lead intoxication.
