Typescript of lecture given by Jefferson to the University of London on 25 January 1952 as part of the series 'Fundamentals of Physiology'. This lecture was published in Lectures on the Scientific Basis of Medicine, vol. 1, 1951-1952 (there is a copy of this lecture in MMC/1). Although the pagination suggests that pages 10-12 are missing, the typescript is actually complete. There is a small amount of manuscript annotation.
