Scope and Content

Contains: letters to Jackson from [Col] J. Kimmis concerning the Peninsular war and personal matters, 1811; copy of letter to "L[or]d B[?entinck]" requesting a placement in Ceylon for Jackson's son, and reply, 1824; letter to Miss Noake, 1789; extract from the marriage register of St Peter's church, Colombo [Ceylon], taken in 1854 and relating to the marriage of A.C. Jackson and E.C. Mitchell, 1812.

Arrangement

Items JACK/4/1/1-2 were originally listed as 2/1/1-2 (part of the Robert Jackson correspondence). The letters are clearly dated 1811, a date which is strongly supported by their contents, and must therefore post-date Robert Jackson, who died in 1786. The "colonel Jackson" of the address is undoubtedly A.C. Jackson, who held that rank before his promotion to Major General in 1813.
