This class consists of a series of a series of letters and telegrams of condolence sent to John Donat and his two siblings on the death of their father. There is also a bundle of cards from people and institutions who sent flowers (/39-77). Many of the letters contain personal tributes to RD, expressions of admiration for his work and affection for him as a person. A large number of them are obviously from close friends and family, and some are only signed with first names. Senders include actor John Laurie (/5), RD's first wife, Ella [Hall] (/21-22) and his second wife Renée [Asherson] (/37). The list of those who sent flowers includes: Sir John and Lady Mary Mills; the Old Vic; Renée [Asherson]; Eleanor Farjeon; Twentieth Century-Fox Films and all Donat's colleagues on The Inn of the Sixth Happiness; the BBC; British Actors' Equity Association; Vivien and Larry [Olivier]; and Ingrid Bergman.
