Executorship Records

Scope and Content

The records below consist of: account books for the executorship, and copies thereof, which record the distribution of legacies, payments of annuities, management of investments, and the finances of the charities established under Walton's will (EGR8/1/1 & EGR8/1/2); financial papers which belonged to Thomas Walton and were taken over by his executrix (EGR8/1/3); a volume recording receipts of legacies (EGR8/1/4); a single receipt for a legacy paid to Samuel Pickering (EGR8/1/5); and a bundle of financial papers relating to two cases in Chancery, the 5th Earl of Stamford and others v. the Attorney General, and the Earl of Stamford and others v. Pickering, in which the provisions of Walton's will were contested, and to the administration of the several charitable foundations established by the executors, such as Seamon's Moss School (EGR8/1/6).
