Cards from family and friends associated with Norman Nicholson

Scope and Content

Cards and notes sent to Doreen Cornthwaite by three different couples who all had a connection with NCN, as follows:

  • /1-5 Christmas cards from Rosemary and Eric [Joyce, NCN's sister-in-law and her husband]. Some contain brief notes, including references to the forthcoming edition of NCN's Collected poems [1994], and a NCN exhibition in Manchester [probably the exhibition held at the John Rylands Library in 1992].
  • /6-11 Christmas cards and a letter from Margaret and Ron [Barnes, friends of NCN's based in Liverpool]. Includes a reference to Irvine Hunt's plans to compile an anthology of NCN's work in 1989.
  • /12-16 Christmas cards from Leonard and Bessie Schiff [the latter of whom was a schoolfriend of NCN's who subsequently attended Manchester University]. Some of the cards contain brief notes, including references to: a reading of NCN's work delivered by Bessie Schiff and Irvine Hunt in Barrow; their visit to the John Rylands Library [to see the 1992 NCN exhibition]; and NCN's gravestone.
