Manuscript material

Scope and Content

Manuscript material which probably represents the portion of the magazine typeset in-house. It consists of the editorial, reports and letters, news and notes, poetry, and book reviews which appeared in the issue. These are in the form of typescripts or copy typescripts, some with covering letters; the correspondence is largely in the form of original letters, sometimes with further correspondence relating to the quotation or use of the material; and some of the notes and news section is in the form of flyers and other printed material. Includes: editorial by C.H. Sisson; reports and letters from Michael Weaver (with covering letter), Michael Schmidt, Susan Pyke, Charles Maude, Michael Vince, Graham Martin, F.C.H. Fryer; most of the notes and news section (including covering letters from Alan [Young], Jacques Darras, David Arkell, Neil Astley, and a short verse in the hand of Michael Schmidt which was not ultimately included in the issue); poems by Alexander Pushkin (translated by Charles Tomlinson and Henry Gifford, with covering letter from Tomlinson), Alison Brackenbury, Robert [Pinsky], C.H. Sisson, Richard Wilbur (with covering letter), Jeremy Hooker, John Peck (with covering letter), Neil Powell (with covering note) and John Heath-Stubbs; and book reviews by C.J. Fox, Dick Davis, Michael Cayley (2 reviews), Peter Levi, David Wright, Lawrence Sail (only one of his two reviews is included, that on Patricia Beer, with covering letter from Sail), Debbie Mitchell, Andrew Motion, Donald Davie and John Haffenden.
